Amakpe International Refineries (Nigeria) Ltd. is a subsidiary of U.S. based Amakpe International, Inc. Succeeding the privatization of the oil and gas industry’s downstream sector, the subsidiary was established in 2000 as a domestic corporation under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Department of Petroleum Resources of Nigeria (DPR) issued a 12,000 barrel per day (BPD) private refinery construction license to Amakpe in July 2007. The project is currently being implemented in 2 phases. Phase 1 includes the construction of a 12-kilometer pipeline connecting Exxon/Mobile QIT and a 120,000 barrel (BBL) tank farm, field erection, as well as start-up/operation. The fabrication of the plant was completed in January 2010. Since then, it has been housed in Pasadena, Texas, awaiting final shipment and installation at the project site in Eket, Akwa Ibom.
